Chopard began its remarkable watchmaking journey in 1860. Louis-Ulysse Chopard founded the company in Sonvilier, Switzerland. At first, the workshop focused on precise pocket watches and chronometers. Moreover, Chopard quickly became known for accuracy and reliability.

By 1885, Chopard had earned an excellent reputation. Consequently, the company became a supplier to important organisations and customers. These included the Swiss railway company and Tsar Nicholas II. Therefore, Chopard established strong foundations in Swiss watchmaking.

In 1937, Chopard moved its operations to Geneva. This move strengthened its connection with Switzerland’s watchmaking centre. However, another important chapter began in 1963. Karl Scheufele acquired Chopard and helped preserve its watchmaking heritage. As a result, the brand entered a new period of growth.

Today, Chopard combines traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. Its L.U.C collection honours founder Louis-Ulysse Chopard. Meanwhile, its Happy Sport collection brought diamonds into a playful design. In 1993, seven moving diamonds became its defining feature. Consequently, Happy Sport became a distinctive luxury watch icon.

Chopard also developed a strong connection with motorsport. Since 1988, Chopard has supported the famous Mille Miglia race. Furthermore, its Mille Miglia watches reflect classic-car racing inspiration. This partnership continues to influence Chopard’s sporty watch designs.

Today, Chopard remains respected for luxury watches and jewellery. Therefore, its history combines innovation, craftsmanship, and family leadership. For collectors, Chopard offers both heritage and contemporary character. Additionally, you can explore luxury watches through BuySellSourceWatches. For official history, visit Chopard’s history page.
